Polly Takt - The Heat Is On

# Polly Takt — The Heat Is On There are songs about factories, night shifts, and machines that will not behave. There are not, so far as we can tell, any other songs about scientific injection moulding. There is certainly not another full album. Until now. Polly Takt’s The Heat Is On is nine tracks long. It follows the same sequence a process should follow on the press: fill speed, cavity balance, pressure drop, pack and hold, gate freeze, gate seal, cooling, the process window, and then holding the line once the process is actually repeatable. You can stream the album here: Listen to The Heat Is On

Cycle Time Optimisation vs Stability Trade-offs

Reducing cycle time increases output—but pushing too aggressively often destroys process stability. Narrow process windows, increased scrap, and constant adjustments can quietly eliminate the gains made on paper. This article explores the balance between cycle time optimisation and long-term process robustness.

Decoupled Moulding: Misunderstood or Misapplied

Decoupled moulding is often reduced to “fill to 95% and transfer.” The percentage is real training guidance — but schools interpret fill-only differently, and first stage is often a profile that must preserve the fill time from the speed study. This article explains why the methodology is misunderstood when it is treated as a recipe instead of a way of separating and understanding process variables.

The Hidden Cost of Tooling Shortcuts

Tooling issues are often treated as quality problems, but their real impact goes far deeper. Poor venting, worn parting lines, and cooling imbalance don’t just create defects—they destroy process stability and consume valuable machine time. This article explores how tooling shortcuts quietly erode capacity, repeatability, and scientific process control.

Why Scientific Moulding Fails in Practice

Scientific moulding is widely accepted in theory, yet many factories still rely on constant adjustments and reactive processing. Why? Because scientific moulding cannot succeed in an environment that refuses to eliminate instability at its source. This article explores why robust methodologies often fail in practice—not because the science is wrong, but because organisations expect processing to compensate for tooling, maintenance, and system weaknesses.

Process Windows Don’t Fail — They’re Never Established

Process instability is often blamed on narrow process windows—but in many cases, no true window has ever been established. Running at a single “good” setpoint is not the same as understanding the limits of a process. Without defined boundaries, even small variations in material, temperature, or tooling can lead to defects, adjustments, and lost production time. This article explores why most process windows don’t fail—they simply don’t exist—and what that means for stability, capacity, and control.

Selling Time, Not Plastic

Most injection moulding companies think they sell plastic parts. They don’t. They sell time. Every unstable process, every workaround for poor tooling, every “just adjust it” mindset eats into the one thing that cannot be recovered: machine time.
